New Litigation Tracker Update

  • 1,4-dixoane. 1,4-dioxane, a heterocyclic organic compound employed in the manufacture of a wide range of industrial and consumer products, is persistent and mobile in the environment and, combined with its potential toxicity, a contaminant of concern for U.S. drinking water systems. More than 100 lawsuits have been filed in New York and Illinois seeking to recover the cost of removing 1,4-dioxane to levels that meet applicable state standards.

  • Ethylene oxide. Ethylene oxide is widely used to sterilize heat-sensitive medical devices. Residents living near sterilization plants in Illinois and Georgia have filed more than 900 lawsuits alleging ethylene oxide emissions have caused or elevated the risk of cancers and reproductive injuries. Plaintiffs seek damages for their injuries as well as compensation for diminution of property values and ongoing medical monitoring.
